The Strategic Thuraya Monitoring System has been designed to overcome thelineof-sight limitation for duplex calls, faced by tactical system while monitoring Thuraya satellite phone on Thuraya-2 or Thuraya-3 satellites. Strategic Thuraya Monitoring System monitors both L-band uplink (from Thuraya Subscriber to Thuraya Satellite) and C-band downlink (from Thuraya Satellite to Thuraya Gateway) to provide duplex calls. The standard configuration of the system is capable of monitoring 7 spot beams simultaneously to provide 224 duplex calls. One spot beam coverage is approximately 300-400Km enhancing the monitoring coverage of standard Strategic Thuraya Monitoring system to 2100Km. However, this range can be further increased by using tactical Thuraya Monitoring systems deployed at different locations. The strategic system uses one small L-band antenna and one fixed 9-meterdiameterC-band antenna.

Since Thuraya traffic is encrypted, the system is equipped with hardware decryptor unit to decrypt intercepted traffic in real time and provide plain intelligible output in the form of Voice calls, SMS and Data sessions along with session related information and geo-location of Thuraya phones. System can also be configured to intercept the traffic fromThuraya C-band only.
